You can install WordPress themes directly from Appearance → Themes → Add new in your WordPress backend, but you can also install themes by uploading it.
Please backup your website before installing a theme
Normally WordPress is a very stable software and a theme installation rarely fails, nevertheless I highly recommend to make regular backups of your WordPress website – just in case. You can use the BackWPup plugin or one of the thousand alternative plugins to backup your website.
Download theme
First of all you need the theme package as ZIP file. You can download our themes on the theme pages. Please be aware that the downloaded file is already a ready-to-use ZIP file, which you can use right away to upload to your WordPress Dashboard.
Please note: Some browsers like Safari include an automatic extract feature, which will unzip the .ZIP file when you download it. Therefore you have to deactivate this feature before you download the theme.
Install Themes via Upload Function
In order to install your downloaded WordPress theme, login to your WordPress Dashboard and go to Appearance → Themes. Click on ‘Add New’ at the top of the themes screen.
You are able to search for WordPress.org hosted themes now. However, you want to upload a downloaded theme, therefore click ‘Upload Theme’ at the top of the screen.
Then select your downloaded theme package (.zip Archive file) and click on ‘Install Now’. WordPress will then automatically upload the zipped theme file, extract it and install the theme.
For the installation process WordPress has to connect to your webserver via FTP in order to copy the theme files to your WordPress installation. You can get the FTP credentials from your webhost in case WordPress is asking you for the FTP login details.
Activate Theme
After you have installed the theme properly, you only have to activate it on your WordPress website. Therefore go to your WordPress Dashboard → Appearance → Themes where you can see the activated theme and all your installed themes.
Then hover over the theme screenshot with your mouse and click on ‘Activate’ to change the current theme.
This tutorial briefly explains how you can install plugins on your WordPress website, for example your purchased PRO Version plugin or ThemeZee Add-on plugins.

This tutorial will briefly explain how you can upgrade from the free theme version to your purchased pro version. The process is very easy and will only take a few seconds.
Install the Pro plugin
Please note that the pro version is an add-on plugin, which adds the additional pro features to the base theme. You therefore have to install and activate the free magazine theme and install the pro version plugin in addition. You can learn how to install plugins in the Install WordPress plugins tutorial.
After you have installed and activated the pro version plugin, you can go to Appearance -> Pro Version and enter your license key in order to get automatic updates.
Setup additional features
The plugin adds several new settings on WP admin panel → Appearance → Customize → Theme Options. There should be two new sections for Theme Colors and Theme Fonts as well as several new settings in the existing sections for uploading a logo image, removing the credit link and more, depending on the theme you are using.
You can also add footer widgets on your WP admin panel → Appearance → Widgets now.
Our Pro Version plugins come with a license key, which are needed in case you want to use automatic updates. While our products are fully functional without entering a license key, you won’t get notifications about updates in your WordPress dashboard.
Before you can enter you license key you have to install and activate the Pro Version Plugin. You can then enter your license key in your WordPress backend on Appearance → Pro Version.
Click on the [Activate License] button. You should get a notice that your license is active.
In case you have entered an invalid license key please make sure that you have selected the key for the right plugin you’re using, that your license is not expired yet and has not reached the maximum number of websites.
If you have still problems with your licenses, please contact us and we will take care of it.
This short tutorial explains the solution to one of the most occuring issues by installing the Pro Version.
Theme Install Failed The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.
Solution: Install Pro Version as Plugin
Please be aware that the pro version is an add-on plugin, which adds the additional pro features to the base theme.
You therefore have to install the pro version as plugin, not as theme. You can learn how to install plugins in the Install WordPress plugins tutorial.
After you have installed and activated the pro version plugin, you can go to Appearance -> Pro Version and enter your license key in order to get automatic updates.
This short tutorial explains the solution to one of the most occuring issue by plugin updates.
Plugin Update failed
An error occurred while updating Poseidon Pro: Download failed. Unauthorized
Solution
The error notice means your website could not authentificate on our servers to download the files of the new plugin version.
There are usually three different reasons causing this error message:
The license key was not activated for the website. Please go to Appearance -> Pro Version and enter your license key in order to get automatic updates.
Your license has expired. You have to renew your license to continue getting updates.
You have moved your website to a different domain or production site. Please go to Appearance -> Pro Version and deactivate and re-activate your license key. That will add the new domain of your website to our servers and the update should work fine then.
You can manage your license keys and active sites in your account page.
If you have still problems with updating your plugins, please contact support@themezee.com and we will take care of it.
